Importance

So, what is the importance of studying women in war?

Understanding the experience of a woman in the military holds importance because of the distinct male dominance that there has always been in military. Women in military face certain difficulties and obstacles simply because they are women. Throughout history, men have always been the warriors, the heroic fighters that defend their countries, while women have traditionally held domestic roles. Today, the image of a man is still what comes to mind when one mentions the word ‘soldier.’ Physically, men are better suited for combat; women tend to be smaller in body size and are generally weaker than their male counterparts. However, in modern military, the amount of women that partake has been steadily increasing. If the role of a soldier has always been defined as masculine and male, how must women adapt to be ‘one of the boys?’
